Blue Monday is coming up, do you think it's a real thing?

Free cinema tickets, 99p main course, free LEGO, rail sale, Amazon finds, National Trust passes, £20 towards your mortgage
Hey there! I don’t know about you, but I’m so glad it’s warmer this week!
That was borderline too cold for me in Scotland during that recent freezing spell. I even resorted to buying hand warmers (have linked the ones I got below, they’re under £10) which were a game changer because gloves just weren’t cutting it.
I’m really excited about this free cinema tickets deal and I think it’s going to be your favourite deal in the newsletter too! Let me know if you claim your free cinema tickets.
🍿 Free Cinema Tickets
You can get free cinema tickets to exclusive movie screenings every month, thanks to Escapes, supported by the BFI, awarding National Lottery funding.
This month, the free tickets are to watch the 90s classic Point Break in a new 4K restoration with Keanu Reaves and Patrick Swayze.
How to claim your tickets:
Tap the ‘Claim your free cinema tickets’ button below
Tap the location icon on the top right corner of the screen to enter your postcode and select your nearest cinema
Click ‘Book Now’ and choose your number of tickets (max 2 per transaction)
Go to the checkout and create an account (tip: tick the consent boxes to receive Escapes emails about future free ticket offers!)
Tap ‘Proceed’ and your tickets are booked woohoo! You’ll receive a confirmation email (check your junk folder too) within a few minutes
Know someone who loves the cinema and loves freebies? Make sure you tell them about this deal!
PS. Once you’ve booked your tickets, keep scrolling down this newsletter for a sneak peek at what February and March’s movies are!
💭 Guess the Riddle
This is easy to lift, but hard to throw. What is it?
The answer is at the end of this newsletter.
💰 What Is Cashback?
I’m on a mission to get you to start using cashback if you aren’t already, because it’s one of the easiest way to save money on your shopping.
If I was to describe what receiving cashback feels like, I’d say it’s like being part of an exclusive club of people who are kinda beating the system by saving as much money as possible… and I want you in that club too!
So today I finished writing an article on my website about ‘what is cashback’ to answer any questions you have about using it, break down exactly how it works and recommend my favourite apps.
⭐️ Free Cinema Tickets - Future Dates
The Escapes team have given us an exclusive sneak peek at the next two months of free films:
✨ 9th February - The Sloth Lane (family friendly)
✨ 17th March - The Penguin Lessons
It’s worth opting in to receiving future emails from Escapes to get alerted to when these tickets are available to book. In the meantime, you can book January’s screening of Point Break below.
🛍️ Things I’ve Bought From Amazon This Week
I’ve ordered a few brilliant things from Amazon this week - some completely new and one a repeat orders - so wanted to recommend them to you.
👋 Hand warmers
Gloves just weren’t cutting it for me during that cold snap, so I ordered these rechargeable hand warmers from Amazon and they’re amazing! Pop them in your pocket or glove to keep your hands toasty.
💡 File organiser with 24 pockets
I first bought this 2 years ago to keep my business receipts organised by month and it’s made my life so much easier! I’ve just filled up all 24 months pockets now so ordered another this week. If you’re a business owner or just like to be organised, highly recommend this.
👙 Swimsuit with cover up
It’s a struggle finding summer clothes in January for a winter sun holiday so I turned to Amazon and found some gems! This swimsuit has a built in cover up/skirt but it has a little tie bit, which makes it look like a mini sarong which is v v v cute! I actually feel kinda confident wearing this and I’ve never felt like that in a swimsuit! I got size XL.
👗 Summer dresses
I ordered two summer dresses from Amazon and both fit perfectly! I’m actually really surprised by how nice they are - the material is heavier than I thought so it hangs nicely, they’re really soft and the sizing Amazon recommend was spot on. I bought a size L.
🚂 50% Off Train Tickets
2 million tickets have been reduced by up to 50% in the Great British Rail Sale. This is a government initiative so pretty much all UK train operators are taking part in the sale, including Scotrail.
The sale is on until 20th January, and you can book your discounted train tickets for travel between 17th January and 31st March.
🏡 Free £20 Towards Your Mortgage
If you already have the Sprive app (a mortgage overpayments app), but haven’t used the ‘Shop With Sprive’ feature for at least 3 months or at all then this deal is for you!
When you buy a £50+ supermarket gift card by 11.59pm on 31st January, Sprive will give you £20 to put towards your mortgage.
To check if you’re eligible for this deal, when you open the app it should pop up with the offer or on the ‘dashboard’ page the offer should show there. If the offer isn’t there, it means you’re not eligible for the £20 bonus.
Not got Sprive yet? You can get £5 bonus towards your mortgage when you join the app with code T3K2RZTE
🌳 Free National Trust Passes
From 18th-26th January, you can claim a free National Trust family pass in various Reach newspapers, such as Daily Star, Mirror, Express etc. You can use your pass in England, Wales and Northern Ireland (it never includes Scotland sadly!).
Usually, a couple of weeks after the newspapers have the free passes we see an online version too. I’ll keep an eye out and update you if I see them!
🏎️ Free LEGO Soap Box Racer
These LEGO make and take events are always super popular!
You can head to your nearest LEGO store in UK or Ireland and build a mini City Soap Box Racer and take it home with you. The event is on 18th January from 10am to 12pm and 19th January from 12pm to 2pm.
Don’t worry if you can’t make this one, they do these events every couple of months usually and have different themes.

🧠 Question
Blue Monday, the 3rd Monday of January, is said to be the most depressing day of the year. The term was coined by UK travel company Sky Travel about 20 years ago - but do you believe it?
